Getting Started

How do I create an account?

Click the "Sign In" button in the top right corner and sign in with your Google account. It takes less than 30 seconds to get started.

Is there a free plan?

Yes! Our Free plan includes 30 profile views per month, 3 emails per day, the ability to save up to 10 professors, and automated follow-up emails. No credit card required.

What makes Uplevel Skill different?

We combine comprehensive professor databases, AI-powered search, professional email templates, and automated follow-up emails—all in one platform. Our AI personalizes both initial emails and follow-ups to reference professors' specific research. Instead of manually searching dozens of university websites, everything is organized and accessible in one place.

Searching

How does the professor search work?

Enter keywords related to your research interests (e.g., "machine learning", "computer vision"). Our AI-powered system uses Jaccard similarity to match your interests with professor research areas, publications, and expertise.

Can I filter by university or department?

Yes! Use the Filters button to narrow results by specific universities, departments, research fields, or metrics like h-index. You can apply multiple filters simultaneously.

How many professors can I view?

Free plan: 30 profile views per month. Basic plan: 100 per month. Pro plan: 500 per month. A view is counted when you click on a professor's profile to see their full details.

Email Templates

How do I use email templates?

Go to the Email page in your dashboard. Choose from professional templates, select a professor, and customize the email. You can use AI personalization on Basic and Pro plans to reference specific research.

What are automated follow-ups?

After sending your initial email, we automatically send 3 follow-up emails over the next 2 weeks. Free users get well-crafted generic follow-ups. Basic and Pro subscribers get AI-personalized follow-ups that reference the professor's specific research.

Can I customize templates?

Absolutely! Templates are starting points. You can edit every part of the email before sending. Basic and Pro users can use AI enhancement to personalize emails with references to specific papers and research.

Subscription

Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan?

Yes! You can change your subscription plan at any time from your Profile page. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing cycle.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) through Stripe, our secure payment processor.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. If you're not satisfied within the first 7 days of subscribing, contact us for a full refund. After 7 days, refunds are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Technical

My search isn't returning results. What should I do?

Try: (1) Using broader search terms (e.g., "AI" instead of "GPT-4 fine-tuning"), (2) Removing filters, (3) Checking spelling, (4) Searching for a professor name directly if you know it.

How do I reset my password?

We use Google OAuth for authentication, so you don't need a password. Simply sign in with your Google account. If you need to change which Google account you use, log out and sign in with a different account.

Can I use Uplevel Skill on mobile?

Yes! Our website is fully responsive and works on all devices. We currently don't have a dedicated mobile app, but the web version works great on phones and tablets.
